Welcome to the Atherton Tablelands
WWest of the Great Dividing Range, just a little over an hour by road from Cairns, you enter the highlands and diverse ecosystems of the Atherton Tablelands.
WWith a starting altitude of 500m, the climate (www.tablelands.org/tablelands/weather.html) immediately changes from the coastal humidity as soon as you come up either of the ranges. From Mareeba, at the northern side of the Atherton Tablelands and gateway to Cape York, boasting 300 sunny days a year to the lush rolling green hills of Millaa Millaa, on the southern end, there is the general average of 5 to 8 degrees Celsius difference to the east coast.
WHead south west to Ravenshoe, the highest town in Queensland and further to Mt Garnet from where you can travel on south to central Queensland or turn and follow the Savannah Way.
WThe Atherton Tablelands is the northern central hub which offers a vitality of life and a place for lifestyle and industry.
You are happily out for your Sunday morning bicycle ride, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. Time for a coffee so you wheel into the car park and in your enthusiasm to park the bike, it falls and scratches the neighbouring car.
